Libreoffice lets you change (font, background, ...) colour directly using the buttons in the toolbar or via the context menu. However, you can only choose one of the predefined colours. Choosing a custom colour in Libre Office is far too complicated: The desired colour has to be added to the colour table in the settings menu before it can be used. Please improve/simplify colour handling in Libre Office and let users choose custom colours directly from the toolbar buttons.
Thank you for your report! IMHO this is a valid enhancement request, therefore set Status to NEW.

IMHO this is NOT a duplicate bug 42159. The problem described here is that, as an example, it's not possible to directly assign any background color to a cell. It's only possible to choose a color from the palette which has to be defined beforhand (in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Colors). This is rather annoying. Microsoft Office and Apple iWork let you directly choose from any color you want. You don't have to define them first.
Document colors (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67995) should be added first, so that custom colors can be easily reused within the document.

Duplicate Bug 74905 is mostly about being able to re-use old colours (which was in scope for our colour picker design).
