Description Bastián Díaz 2013-02-11 09:28:02 UTC
Description of problem:
Can not display comments in LO Impress files created in MS Office or LO. On the other hand if you make editing changes and the document is saved, the comments are lost (loss of information).

In addition, you can insert comments in new documents.

Simple as it may seem, this section decreases collaborative work that can be done.

Version-Release number of selected component:
Windows 7 SP1
LibreOffice Impress 4.0

How reproducible:
Open a presentation document with LO 4.0 (OpenDocument or Office Open XML) containing comments (made with LO 3.6, MS Office 2010/2013) → comments are not displayed.

Edit a presentation (OpenDocument or Office Open XML) containing comments, and perform editing work. Save the document. → When you open the file in LO 3.6 or MS Office 2010/2013 there are no comments.

Create a blank file with LO Impress. go to menu "insert / comment". The menu appears in gray (not selectable).

Expected results:
To view, create and edit comments in LO Impress 4.0

Additional info:
In pursuit of cooperative management, the system add comments Impress could be improved (especially as shown), this because it is on the slide and a disproportionate size, is invasive. I do not mean a big change, but that comments be submitted in Impress as Writer, next and orderly (and please both Impress and in Writer, you can insert a comment from the context menu, as in Calc).

For space would no problem, as the sidebar "tasks" (for me) is not very useful (to the form as presented, not their functions), as always hidden or close. Invoke only when I need from the context menu (I have always wondered why the task sidebar displayed by default in views "outline, notes and handout, there are design issues, but they may be perfectly in page setup menu.) in that sense one could observe the presentation of options MS Office 2013, and a sidebar appears only when needed and then return to normal view (main view and slide sidebar)

thanks

Experiment with impress libreoffice Version 4.0.1.0 + (Build ID: a5acd33bc54cbc00f2194c923641fbd0ab45d80) and this problem is solved (you can view, create and store comments in Impress).

I do not know situation on other platforms.

thanks

Thanks for reporting and your feedback! I also can reproduce this behavior using 4.0.0.3; but I can't anymore using 4.0.1.1 rc. Therefore I mark this as RESOLVED WORKSFORME (not FIXED, because we don't know which commit fixed this behavior).

Kind regards,
Joren
Comment 3 Bastián Díaz 2013-02-27 22:40:02 UTC
I reopened the bug report, because I was able to replicate the problem in the latest version of LibreOffice development, and considering that no known cause of this error.

Tested in the LO version 4.0.1.1 (Build ID: 2c0c17a6e4bee0ee28131ea4bdc47edc700d659)
Windows 7 pro 32 bit.

I tried to replicate the problem in Linux, but after installing and running the application, it would not open (Fedora 18 32-bit)

The error has the same effects described in comment 1 (most unpleasant is the loss of information).

thanks

@Bastian - please attach a document that we can easily see the regression. If the problem is resolve in 4.3 please close the bug as RESOLVED -> WORKSFORME, else mark the bug as UNCONFIRMED.

Marking as NEEDINFO as we need a simple test file

Works for me in LO 4.4.0.3, both for creating and round-tripping comments through ODP and PPTX

There are some issues with old-fashioned PPT which I will open a separate bug for

-> RESOLVED WORKSFORME
