Created attachment 74846 [details] Screenshot of General Error popup Problem description: Updated from 3.5.5 to 4.0.0.3. Now, every odt or ott file I open gets a white screen with a General Error popup. Click OK and the document opens OK. It can be edited and saved with no problem. But next time it is opened, it gets another General Error. Happens whether you double click on the odt/ott file or open Writer first and then open a document. No problem opening MS Office doc files or Calc ods files. Current behavior: General Error opening Writer files Expected behavior: No General Error opening Writer files Operating System: Windows 7 Version: 4.0.0.3 release Last worked in: 3.5.5.3 release
Could you attach a file so we can try to reproduce?
sumbuddy99: another question, did you directly upgrade or did you uninstall LO 3.5.5 then install 4.0.0.3?
Created attachment 75269 [details] Document requested by support. Describes problem and shows error messages. Julien Nabet requested I attach a file for testing. This document describes the problem and includes the popup error messages I see. I have also discovered a new error when using the Save As rather than the Save option. I get a popup saying Error saving the document, but the file saves OK.
(In reply to comment #1) > Could you attach a file so we can try to reproduce? Julien, thank you for your attention to this matter. I have attached a file named Bug 60864-1.odt. It documents the problem and shows the popup error messages I have seen. In addition to the error opening odt or ott files, I have discovered an error when saving a document using the Save As rather than the Save option. It gives an error saying Error saving the document, but the document saves OK. I apologize for the delay in responding. This is the first chance I have had to reply.
(In reply to comment #2) > sumbuddy99: another question, did you directly upgrade or did you uninstall > LO 3.5.5 then install 4.0.0.3? I downloaded and ran the update file LibreOffice_4.0.0_Win_x86.msi. I did not uninstall version 3.5.5 first. I have used this method to update LibreOffice and OpenOffice in the past with no problems. I started using LibreOffice 3.3.2, then upgraded to 3.4.4, then 3.5.5, then 4.0.0.3 without ever uninstalling.
very odd to have this error. can you try to reset your user profile as described here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resetting_the_user_profile if that resolves the problem, please attach your renamed old user profile (but if it makes no difference the problem is somewhere else, so no need to attach it).
I see exactly the same behavour under Linux Mint 13 (Ubuntu 12.4 LTS) 64 bit. Doesn't appear to damage documents, so not a big problem.
Appears to have been resolved in version 4.0.1.2. No problems opening or saving documents now.
Sumbuddy99 reports that the bug was resolved in release 4.0.1.2. If that was the case, then it has reappeared in release 4.0.2.1 which is the current release delivered by Linux Mint 13 (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS). The bug has not been fixed.
John: as Michael had suggested in comment 6, did you reproduce this after having renamed your LO directory profile? (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resetting_the_user_profile)
No luck Julien, but thanks for the suggestion. I found two directories ~/.config/libreoffice/3/user/ and ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/. I wasn't quite sure what to rename, so I renamed them ~/.config/libreoffice/3-old/user-old/ and ~/.config/libreoffice/4-old/user-old/ respectively. Started up Libreoffice and it created a new ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/, but the error still appeared as before. I'm getting used to it, so I'll probably just wait until the normal update process replaces the version with one that is OK.
John: could you install libreoffice-dbg and launch LO from console? The goal is to know if there are warnings/error during file opening.
The error message was: WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-wR1vrg/pkcs11: No such file or directory BTW: we're travelling in Spain/Portugal, with limited network connectivity, so I may go quiet from time to time.
Thank you John for your feedback. No more question for the moment, I put it back to UNCONFIRMED
This bug says "linux" but bug reporter uses Windows 7 -> setting to Win I tried reproducing this, but couldn't. File opens fine on OS X 10.8.4 & Ubuntu 13.04. @sumbuddy99: Could you please retry opening that file with the latest LO release from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ . Should the issue persist, please re-set this bug to UNCONFIRMED.
I'm now using Version 4.0.4.2 (Build ID: 400m0(Build:2)) under Linux Mint 13 (LTS) and the bug is no longer apparent. Thanks for sorting it!
Since reporter + John don't reproduce the problem + there's no specific fix, put it WFM.
For one month, I use Zorin OS 9 Core with Libre Office 4.3.0.4. I save my large study-resume file made with Writer as a .rft file. But now i cannot open this file anymore. Not in MS-Word on Win 7 and on Win 8 and not with Libre-office and i got this error (in dutch: "LibreOffice 4.3.0.4" "Algemene fout" "Algemene invoer-/uitvoerfout" "OK" I've tried to rename in to .doc but that didn't work also. Maybe someone can help ? Thanx
Den: Please don't hijack an existing solved problem. Indeed, the original problem is about an odt and yours is with a rtf file. So create a new bugtracker (see https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/) if you can reproduce this after having installed last stable LO version 4.3.5
