I use a non-printing box for to assign several "variables" that show up throughout one of my template documents. I display the "variable" throughout the document by choosing, Insert -> Fields -> Other -> Variables -> ShowVariable. In version 3.6, I this function worked for the main text of the document and for headers/footers. In version 4.0, it only works for the main text and does not work for headers/footers.
Can you attach a document that has several variables so we can test it out? Going to mark as NEEDINFO, once you attach document, mark as UNCONFIRMED and I'll test 3.6 vs. 4.0 vs. 4.1, thanks!
I am trying to verify this, but I would like to understand what you are doing, exactly. This is my first time creating a variable. I went to Insert -> Other -> Variables and used Set Variable to create a new variable myVar with text "variable text". Then I followed your steps. Insert -> Fields -> Other -> Variables -> ShowVariable, and clicked Insert. It worked on inserting "variable text" or the name myVar, depending on which I selected. It worked for the Header and Footer. If this is not what you meant, could you please clarify? Created attachment 76070 [details] attachment-19785-0.html Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think you've described what I meant quite correctly. However, when I choose ShowVariable, it will insert the correct text and date in the the main body of the document but not in headers or footers. For text variables only a empty space character appears. For numeric variables meant to represent the date, it inserts the number zero (which displays the date 30 Dec 1899). Perhaps there is something obvious that I am missing. Perhaps it is something unique to LO 4.0 on WinXP. I created a sample document today as a demonstration (see attached). The same problem occurred using WinXP, but when I opened the test document at home where I run Debian testing and LO 3.5.4.2, there was no problem at all. Thanks. Correction to Platform information. The machine on which I experienced this issue does in fact have an x64 processor, but it is running WinXP 32 bit (not 64 bit as I may have implied).
Created attachment 76073 [details] attachment-20294-0.html Hi, Thanks for your reply and for looking into this. I created a sample document based on the document I use at work that has been giving me trouble. I have attached the file. I use Debian testing at home which currently runs LO 3.5.4.2. The file works correctly in my home environment but did not work earlier today at work using Win XP with LO 4.0.0.3. Thanks for your help. Hello, I have the same problem. It seams to be the same as bug 60886, for witch a solution have been integrated in the daily buids and should be integrates in LO 4.0.2. I haven't tested yet. Fred.
I tested your "variable test template.odt" successfully with : daily/libreoffice-4-0/Win-x86@6/2013-03-18_07.00.22 So the problem is already solved. Bye
