Hello nigel,
I CANNOT reproduce this bug running LibreOffice 4.0.1.2 on Windows 8

In version 4.0.0.3 we know there is a problem with saving necatice numbers in red but that is fixit/working on it in 4.0.1.2

so please check you version.(help --> about libreoffice )

if it 4.0.0.3 please set the status to mark as Duplicate of bug 60215

if it is on 4.0.1.2 please tell me. and I wil try again harder.

Thank you,
