RTF file which opens blank in LibreOffice

I use a software program to export files to RTF. The RTF files all open correctly in MSWord but opens completely blank in LibreOffice Writer. In old versions of OpenOffice the RTF files do open with the data/images present but the tables/formatting is completely wrong. I have attached a sample file for your review. All RTF files exported with this program appear blank like the file attached.

I can open your RTF file with no issue under Win7 64bit using 4.1.4.2
feel free to reopen if you still experience the bug.

P.S. your original bugzilla report wasn't filed to the LibreOffice product so tha't why it got unnoticed. now I fixed the correct product field

Ok, I confirm that attachment 112935 [details] loads with missing graphic which is instead visible at the bottom of page 2 in MS Words screenshot.

tested with LibO 3.5.0.4, 4.3.5.2 and 4.5.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 0a77c9f15bbb38d8c281daef4512d570683d2cb7

interestingly that graphic is shown in LibO 4.3.6.2 and OOo 3.3.0 and AOO 4.1.0 but is very deformed.

I have consistently checked this bug is present for the past 10+ years once a year when I get this email. Every time I go through the effort and check it's still there. I'm sick of wasting my time checking for no reason. Just forget it. Don't fix it.

While I confirm the document opens in Word with the picture, it doesn't seem to conform to the RTF spec. Page 93 of the RTF spec says that tables start with the \trowd control word and end with the \row control word.

Here is a minimal reproducer of your document:

{\rtf1
\trowd\cellx1000\cellx2000
\pard\intbl A1\cell
\pard\intbl B1\cell
\row
\pard\trowd\cellx1000\cellx3000
\par
after\par
}

You clearly work with \trowd after the last \row, which is not closed by the time the parser reaches the end of the document, which is arguable invalid.

What you probably want is to move your repeated table row definition earlier, i.e. swap the \row and the second \cellx\cellx lines, then both Writer and Word will read your file, and as a bonus point your document will conform to the spec.

This sounds much more clean compared adding yet another workaround to the Writer RTF import to please invalid documents.

Dear Mike,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
