After Upgrading to 4.0.2 from 3.5.6, I recieved the "No JRE..." warning when opening a database from in a database that used the HSQL engine When opening the relevant settings page, it is not obvious that the relevant JRE is NOT selected. The isolated radio button looks more like a status icon of some kind when unselected. I didn't expect to see a radio button with only one option, especially when that option is not selected. This user clearly had the same problem: http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=57069
Same issue when upgrading from 4.0 series to 4.1 series

To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo"; 4b. Confirming also on Version: 5.0.3.2 Build ID: e5f16313668ac592c1bfb310f4390624e3dbfb75 Locale : fr-FR (fr.UTF-8) OSX 10.11.2 One would expect that if LO detects at least one JRE, then the first in the list should be selected by default. This doesn't happen and the user is obliged to click on the radio button to activate the selection.
Confirmed during re-test on: Version: 5.1.2.2 Build ID: d3bf12ecb743fc0d20e0be0c58ca359301eb705f CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Windows 6.1; UI Render: GL; Locale: en-GB (en_GB) I still got the "No JRE" error when opening an HSQL database for the first time after installing LO. The only thing that was different is that when I went to the JRE selection section of the preferences, the JRE did appear to be selected, I clicked on it and then closed the dialog and restarted LO, and the database then worked correctly. I haven't been able to confirm whether this issue would have resolved itself without clicking the in JRE selection box, because the issue doesn't reappear after uninstalling then reinstalling LO.

I haven't been able to reproduce this as I didn't realise I had the wrong version (32bit) of java installed for the version of LO I installed. One the right version was installed LO correctly picked it up with no interaction required. As has been determined previously, the bug doesn't appear when reinstallig LO on a system that has previously had LO installed, so I haven't been able to confirm it. There does appear to still be issues when no JRE is present. After installing LO 64bit (with 32 bit java on my system), I attempted to create a new database with the default settings. This crashed LO when it attempted to open it. Subsequent attempts to open the file were successful, but produced the "No JRE" error when attempting to do anything with it. Also, it would be useful if the preferences dialog was able to sniff for versions of java with the 'wrong' number of bits, to give a more helpful (or at least googleable) error message - a less experienced user is likely to be confused as to why LO thinks there is no JRE installed when he/she can clearly find one in their installed applications.
(In reply to Sandy Scott from comment #7) > As has been determined previously, the bug doesn't appear when reinstallig > LO on a system that has previously had LO installed, so I haven't been able > to confirm it. Well let's keep it NEW still.

Appears to be fixed Just tried on a clean install of windows 10. Java 8 Update 181 (64 bit) installed first. Then installed LO Version: 6.1.1.2 (x64) Build ID: 5d19a1bfa650b796764388cd8b33a5af1f5baa1b When opening Tools->Options->Advanced, the JRE was already selected, so the DB worked straight away.
Great to see this old issue gone :) Tweaking status to WFM
