The global menu does show (default) in the top panel bar. I still can see the global menu headers : LibreOffice File Edit View ... However all the drop down menus are blank ... Hence not usable. I am not the only one to complain e.g. http://askubuntu.com/questions/298010/libreoffice-text-missing-in-global-menu http://askubuntu.com/questions/297743/libre-office-shows-blank-menu-and-then-crashes Someone reported that "removing packages libreoffice-gnome libreoffice-gtk libreoffice-gtk3 solved the issue however menu will look like a Windows 95 app, but it shows ..." Could you please investigate and in the mean mean time provides us the 4.0.2 (?) which was working fine. I don't know where to get it for sure. The latest version 4.0.3.3 was automatically installed through the following ppa in launchpad : https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa If I can add my 2 grains of salt, next time don't release something that is unusable, as I cannot get the previous [working] version which was removed from the FTP servers of the download.libreofficefoundation.org . Well, I am left with a choice of removing it completely and with no working substitute available anywhere to download. This looks rather un-professional to say the least ... Regards

I just added a bug for this then marked as duplicate when I found this one. Big issue for me to say the least.
FYI, I got same situation on same system. Sub-menu is unusable (blank and when I clicked on item, nothing happened). I can work with functions supplied in right-click menu and keyboard shortcut (as long as I can remember the shortcut).
