Description Massimo 2013-06-04 08:03:35 UTC
This is a request for enhancement, rather than a bug report.

Impress has a nice and rich series of animations. However, the default direction is not the best for my purpose and I have to change it each time. For example, when I add a "peek in" animation, it is by default from bottom, which I almost never use. I would like to change the default to "from left" or "from top".

At ask.libreoffice.org I was told that currently there is no way to do that and I was suggested to file an enhancement request (http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/17994/changing-default-animation-direction-in-impress/), which is what I am doing right now.

Yup, that is indeed a valid enhancement request.

Meanwhile, if you're not afraid to edit xml files, you can change the defaults for your local installation, by editing:

<path_to_your_install>/share/config/soffice.cfg/simpress/effects.xml

For the peek in effect, search for ooo-entrance-peek-in in that file, and change smil:subtype="fromBottom" to smil:subtype="fromLeft"

I tried editing the xml file, after quitting LO but it didn't work. Doesn't matter, I'll wait for the enhancement.
You may also consider another, related enhancement. When you select a group of objects (separate objects selected together by the mouse, not grouped in a single object) and you specify an animation, you can change at once the "start" attribute but you cannot change the "property", because it is "grayed". You have to select these objects one by one and change the property separately. It would be more practical if one could change this at once, for example all "from bottom" to "from left", to stick to the same example.

I am glad to see that the enhancement request is regarded as a valid request.

For me productivity, time to complete a presentation is always important and if default setting can be customized it saves a lot of clicks.

I hope our devs have soon time!

Hi,

I'd just like to voice my support for this enhancement. It'd be great to be able to set the default animation to, say, a 0.1s fade-in.

Cheers,
Alex

Any news about this enhancement?

Not sure if this enhancement is still active/scheduled however, in association my requests are that it would be good if a user is able to:

1) Set the default animation to be used. Currently the default is Appear, On click, Delay 0.0sec. I would like to be able to set it to Fade In, On Click, Delay 0.5 sec. (Or any other setting depending on the most frequently used for the specific presentation.)

2) Able to apply default animation to numerous items (not grouped) with the same animation settings. For example, a list of text items inside a text box on a slide is highlighted by activating the text box border and adding to animation. The default animation applied to the group is Appear, On click, 0.0sec. You are unable to change the group setting and must drop the list in the animation sidebar settings and change each individual item, negates the group animation function.

I, too, would love to see this implemented.
That would make my workflow much smoother.

I am really surprised that this has not been addressed in over 10 years.

If LibreOffice is to succeed in the business world, Impress is at least as relevant as Writer. And having to change animation settings over and over again, is a waste of time.

Nevertheless also a big thank you for making LibreOffice happen :-)
