Description Pedro 2013-06-04 11:15:44 UTC
LO 4.1 Beta installer tries to force association with Powerpoint files.

I believe this is the same bug as https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51701 which was dismissed as notabug... I couldn't prove the conclusion was wrong because I don't have Visio...

In any case this is a Regression from 4.0

Do you have PowerPoint installed? If yes, then it is a bug. If not, then it is not a bug.

Yes, I have Powerpoint installed.

Interesting; how do we detect the powerpoint install - I wonder if this is some new registry key location for that or somesuch (?) What version of Powerpoint do you have Pedro ? :-) [ and thanks for the report ].

I have Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 (en_US) with Word, Excel,Powerpoint (and Access) correctly installed and associated with the respective extensions (hence my surprise that LO insists on associating with Powerpoint files but behaves as expected for Word and Excel files)

This is proof that the 3 file types are associated with the respective MS application. Still the installer insists on changing PPT association.

I'd love to get this confirmed; is there some good way of getting the contents of Pedro's registry as well to poke around in it ?

If this was confirmed it would be a 4.1 MAB I think (?) :-)

Just happened the same using LO 3.6.6.2 under Win7 x64. So it's not a Win XP specific bug or a 4.1 MAB. Some combination of events causes the file associations to be messed up. The odd part is that the 3 file types still show the correct icon and open with the expected program but only the Powerpoint association is suggested.

Meanwhile I had to uninstall/reinstall some programs (including MS Office) so the problem is temporarily fixed...

On another PC running Windows XP with Office 2003 and LO 4.0.1.2 installed when I updated to LO 4.1.0.2 all files were associated with LO (because I had chosen so when I installed LO 4.0.1.2). However all file associations BUT Excel were selected during install of 4.1

Opening a folder containing several spreadsheets I noticed that xls and xlsx files showed the LO icon but csv files showed the Excel icon.

BTW checking the Excel files in the 4.1 installer did NOT associated csv files with LO

I guess what TDF needs to figure out is which file associations should LO take over when selected initially and take seriously this proposal https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44462

Changing 'regression' -> 'PossibleRegression' until we have independent confirmation of a regression.

Joel -- Can you confirm on Windows?
Comment 11 Florian Reisinger 2014-04-25 06:35:45 UTC
Works for me with installer of 4.3 alpha 1 on Win 7
