When opening an XLSX in Calc with embedded objects, those objects do not get imported properly. There's a rectangle showing the position where the object is but you cannot open it (LibreOffice 4.0.3.3) or a colored icon of that object with a rectangle is visible (LibreOffice 4.1). Expected behaviour: Double-clicking on that object will open it. Looking inside the .ODS, objects have not been stored..

Hi, Same results as you when trying to open embedded-objects.xlsx. But with .xls format, this work. Can you try that way? Have a nice day, Jacques
When trying this with .XLS, LibreOffice 4.0.3.3 crashes on my system; LibreOffice 4.1 opens the file write-protected (pretending it is opened somewhere and just shows the icons. The embedded objects themselves are not present.
Hi squeezechart, I forgot to tell I produced .xls with MS Starter Kit and it didn't claim anything about write protecting. Since I reproduce images and not linked objects with LO 4.1.0.1 & Windows 7 Home Premium, I set status to NEW. Have a nice day, Jacques
@Squeezechart - please refrain from adding your own bug reports to the MAB list. There is no way you can be unbiased about your own bugs. If you feel like the bugs should be on the MAB list - ping the QA list and ask for feedback from others.

(This is an automated message.) Setting priority to highest as this is a MAB. This is part of an effort to make the importance of MAB reflected in priority too.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Confirm that this bug is still present in LibreOffice 6.3.2.1 and 6.4.0.0

The object itself will produce a string of formulas ' =EMBED("package shell object", "") ' fro MSO excel, then the object in calc does not have such a formula, affecting the problem of incompatibility from excel objects
I guess it is not present in LibreOffice 7.1.0 Someone please confirm..
still present in LibreOffice 7.1.0 alpha 1 - object icons are shown but none of the objects can be opened; they are also not present in the ods when saving.

(In reply to Luke from comment #12) > Still reproducible with Version: 6.1.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) > Build ID: eff70347190a6642fd62a9e0b20e4366c39fbc7a > > XLSX does not open. XLS opens the objects. Indeed, quite unexpected! + it works too with doc and docx as you indicated in another comment so why only xlsx concerned ?
Eike: any idea what might be the pb here or where to search? I mean if it works with xls, perhaps it doesn't need much to make it work on xlsx?
