Lubuntu&WinXP: LibO_Chart

The LibO Chart window does not have a menu bar. Therefore:
- LibreOffice closes when you close ODC-file, when the other components (Base, Calc.) are not running. It was logically if you can see the Start Center.
- Sidebar isn't working.
Other applications e.g. Math or Basic haven't this bug.

Could you please attach a sample ODC file? I can't find any easily, so I have troubles to test the behavior.

Otherwise, I am a bit confused by the description. If I understand it correctly, the main problem is that the application is closed instead of showing the welcome screen. It looks like a minor usability bug.

You also mentioned sidebar. I am not sure how it is related to this bug. If it is not related, please open separate bug and describe what exactly is not working.

So, we have a minor usability bug when closing a document. Also we have a potential bug in the side bar which is an experimental feature. Neither of these problems could block the release => lowering the severity.

Chart (*.odc) file

I'm attaching the file.
Calc containing a patch created this chart of ODS file attached to the description of the earlier bug. You can repeat this bug easy if your mouse clicks this file (Linux; see Note for Windows).

Also (Windows):
a) Run Start Center (soffice.exe)
b) Menu > Open: RATE-edge-case-test.odc (attachment 82492 [details])

Hi, Petr!

Read these messages please: bug 66896 (Recent_Documents - ODC); bug 66913 (LibO_Chart.exe isn’t created); bug 66899 (not register the ODC-files (chart) in the Windows registry)

I understand that:
1. Create a new application “LibO Chart” was unexpected news for programmers.
2.“LibreOffice 4.1.0” has many improvements and should be born in a specified period.
3. Impossible to eliminate mistakes in one week or one month.
4. The program without the menu bar is nonsense and an excuse to ridicule.

My suggestions:
1. Reduce the error status to "critical."
2. In "Release Notes" to write that:
•  the application “LibO Chart” is experimental;
• "TDF" is working on UI of “LibO Chart”, but “TDF” gives the user the opportunity to work with an application right now for the early detection of critical bugs.

Thanks, ape

I see, it is related to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.1#Chart
Well, the release notes mention that it is not meant as a separate module, so you probably expect too much.

I am able to open the attached ,odc file also with LO 3.4 and it shows the same window without menu as LO 4.1 => it is pretty old functionality.

Hmm, I am not able to find how to switch to the "chart edit mode" as mentioned in the release notes. So, I can't check the other ways how to open this window.

I agree that looks a bit strange and it might need some UI improvements. On the other hand, I do not see anything that critical. So, I reduce the severity again.

Markus, could you please sort it somehow?

the feature is only about being able to store charts in doc format and was never expected to provide a full chart editor.

Actually providing a chart editor might not be a good idea because charts can use the data provider of calc/writer or base. But being able to export and import these files has benefits for developers and users. Users can export a chart from one file, send it by mail to someone who can integrate the chart into his document. For developers it allows to debug the chart import without the calc, writer or base document.

For me all these issues are just enhancements that are orthogonal to this new feature. Surely these are no serious bugs that should in any way block the release.

confirmed that this is effectively just a "viewer" still in 5.3beta2
