A handy and popular feature in MS Powerpoint in Windows is the ability to insert an image via a filename typed or pasted into the chooser box; the filename chooser box also allows one to use a URL in which case the application pulls down the image and inserts it into the presentation. The chooser box on the Mac version of LibreOffice appears to have no place to paste or type an image URL. The Linux version appears to have a button to allow "type a file name" but this is not present on the Mac. I have not checked on Windows yet. So, would like the ability to customize the file chooser box to allow typing of a path and filename, and would like that to work with a URL as well. See http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/19335/insert-picture-via-url-on-mac/ for some more info. BTW, Copying and Pasting of the image from a browser directly into Impress does work as a workaround, but the URL option avoids having to use the clipboard at all.
AFASIK no such a feature exists in OOo/LibO. changing version to "inherited from OOo" and setting status to NEW
The trouble with this is that we try to use native file selectors on each OS, and they generally don't have any way of allowing you to select a URL instead of a file. I'm wondering whether it would make sense for us to instead add a new menu entry Insert Picture "from URL" in addition to the "from File" instead, as that would be simple to have working reliably across platforms without relying on the OS behaviour of a file picker?
you can configure LO to use its ugly built in file dialog Tools->Options...->LibreOffice->General->Open/Save dialogs->Use LibreOffice dialogs also people claim that the Mac OS X file dialog will allow entering a path after hitting the "/" key. this is of course all designed to be perfectly intuitive like everything on Mac so there is no bug here.
