Description Udit Mahajan 2013-08-13 15:45:40 UTC
Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create new Document in word 2007+.
2. Insert -> text box.
3. Right Click -> Format Shape -> Text Box -> Columns. Set columns to more than one. As the text becomes more than the height, it starts to arrange in columns as set.
4. Open the document in Writer.

Current behavior: The text size shrinks and is adjusted to show in a single column. The text even starts to overflow if no longer shrinking is possible.

Expected behavior: The text should be shown in column as set in step 3.

The same happens with Impress and text boxes.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.1.0.4 release

This bug (as marked notourbug) isn't really a high priority but it will help in getting libreoffice more compatible with office formats.

Correcting the Steps to Reproduce:

Above are the steps to reproduce this bug for Presentation. For reproducing this bug in Writer:

1. Create new Document in word 2007+.
2. Insert -> text box.
3. Insert -> text box.
4. Right Click -> Create Text Box link. And then click on the second text box. This will create a forward link so when text from first text box overflows, it automatically shows in the second.
5. Open the document in Writer.

Current behavior: The text overflows in the first textbox while the second textbox is empty.

Expected behavior: The text should be shown distributed in multiple text boxes. as set in step 4.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.1.0.4 release

Docx with Linked Text Boxes for multiple columns.

attached is word 2007 document containing two text boxes linked together so when text from the first one overflows it shows in the next one giving them multiple column kind of functionality.

Writer doesn't read this forward link and shows the text entirely in the first text box while second one is shown empty.

Any update on this bug?
I can confirm it is present in 4.1.3 as well.

thanks for screenshot
it must be a Mac specific bug since I correctly see the image under Windows.

regarding the textbox position bug I opened a new report here at Bug 82052.
would you please take a look at it?

@tommy27
Are you sure this worked on Windows? It's not working for me with LO 4.3 & 4.5 under Windows 7.

Verified FIXED in Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 17773e1a8dd6e97f57db111819338c418f819cef

Word's linked Text Boxes are now converted to Writer's linkable text frames(Writer's Text Boxes are not linkable). This is a nice improvement.
