Often I want to add a comment to a phrase or paragraph rather than one particular point in the document. It could be great if creating a comment while text is selected would highlight the text and link the comment to this selection.

This would be similiar to the Microsoft Word functionality.


(Note: this is probably related to this bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63496 which concerns .doc documents)

What version of LibreOffice are you currently using? The feature you're describing is added by Miklos in LibreOffice version 4.0 (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.0#Writer)

Or do I miss something?

Yep, that's exactly the functionality!
I'm using 3.5.something ...libre office on debian. I'll look forward to getting that!

You can use PPA packages to stay up to date in a certain major version release: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa
