I want to format my footnotes/endnotes such:

25% of those who ate the pudding got sick.[1] An independent study corroborated these findings.[2]

LibreOffice doesn't have any way to add brackets to the inline numbers. I would expect it to be under Tools > Footnotes/Endnotes, but nothing there will do what I want. I was hoping for "before" and "after" fields to put any text--brackets, parentheses, angle brackets, etc.--around the inline numbers, just like this dialog has before and after fields for putting text around the numbers in the footnote/endnote section.

I'm not the first person to have this problem, either:
