At the moment to apply format to the line you need to select the necessary line(s) (after you pressed "Format" button) and then click on the selection. It is necessary to simplify the process just to select (after you pressed "Format" button) the line(s) and format should apply to these lines automatically.
Can you provide detailed steps of what you mean? Is this a spreadsheet issue (when you say "line" it sounds like writer). Marking as NEEDINFO - please provide steps to reproduce and then mark as UNCONFIRMED. Thanks!
Look: 1. To select the line in Calc you should click on the column with numbers. 2. Then you click on Format painter (in order to copy formatting from one place to another). 3. Then you click on the first cell to copy formatting from the first line to the line where you are). In case you click on the second or other cells in this line formatting will not be copied to the whole line. It is better to make a changes so when you want to copy formatting from one place to another you will have to select the first line by clicking on the column with numbers and then to copy formatting by clicking on the column with numbers on the second line (instead of clicking on the first cell - what is mess).
Summary edited for clarity. This appears to be the Excel equivalent of bug 81179 which deals with the format painter in Writer. The basic premise appears to be to reduce the amount of clicking involved. Seems reasonable to me, even though I am not overly familiar with the format painter tool. I will leave this one for you to confirm Joel.
(In reply to comment #3) > Seems reasonable to > me, even though I am not overly familiar with the format painter tool. Agreed -> NEW
