screen shot of the error message

Problem description:
Pasting selected pictures and text from web page produce error

Steps to reproduce:
1. I'm selecting with the mouse the text on a web page
2. Ctrl+V to paste it into Writer

Current behavior:
The program hangs for a while (1-2 min) and after this in comes with some error messages and bad format (moved text, ect...)

Expected behavior:
to be able to paste fast without loosing the web page format.

P.S. Not happen on all web pages - this is the link which gave me this error. ( I just selected everything from the heading until the end of the text)

Here I'm using Firefox (last version).

try testing with Explorer and tell me the results.
we should understand if the issue in on LibO side or browser side.
Comment 4 Tomaz Vajngerl 2013-09-26 09:34:46 UTC
When I copy/paste with IE, then it copies only as text into Writer and not as HTML, which I think is the cause why it works fast and with no other problems with IE. When I use Chrome / Firefox to copy the page, Writer tries to parse the HTML into the document structure and this takes some time - however I have no problems with images. It may be that downloading of images timed out - or there was a connection problem in your case.

I used the LO daily build because this is the only I have available currently.

With IE8 it paste without problem, however not with the best format as in Microsoft Word. I think the buttons above the image for sharing and liking causes the problem in general.
Anyone tried with Firefox and WinXP?

no problem pasting from IE8 into LibO Writer 4.1.1.2 under WinXP 32bit on an old 2006 PC.

I was experiencing what Tomaz said. No error message with Firefox 23.0.1, LO 4.0.5.2, Win7 32bit; though I can't confirm reformatting issue while pasting.

OK I'll test it tonight at home (Win7 64-bit) and I'll report again. Could be local browser issue...
Comment 9 eng.GeorgiGeorgiev 2013-09-28 16:20:50 UTC
I've tested at home (Win7 64-bit) with Firefox and it paste very fast without any lag. However the buttons above the image doesn't paste correctly (the one to share on Twitter, Facebook, ect...).
Anyone to try it on WinXP 32-bit with Firefox?
Comment 10 eng.GeorgiGeorgiev 2013-10-01 18:27:46 UTC
I've checked this at my laptop (Win XP Home 32-bit + Firefox 24.0) and the result was the same as on Win7 64-bit. It paste well, only the buttons doesn't paste and actually the image is starting from page 2. So my original report could really be some local thing, but I would like somebody to test it on Win XP Professional 32-bit.

Going back to specification : if I "select all" (Ctrl-A) a complex Web page and copy it, what is Writer supposed to display when I paste ? I thought it was :
- "standard" texts (not FontArt) and images,
- with a "best effort" to mimic the lay-out.

I never thought that Writer was a kind of browser, nor the ideal tool to build full-featured HTML pages. Where is the bug ?

does this imply you are not reproducing anymore the bug you reported at the beginning (hang, error message, bad format)?

if YES, please set status to WORKSFORME.

if you still partially experience some issues, create a new clean separate report
Comment 13 tommy27 2014-01-02 09:31:53 UTC
OK. I'll set status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME.
As I said before, a separate report has to be created for residual issues.
