Screenshot showing sheet opened with 4.0.6

I have two spreadsheets. One references (links) cells from the other one for calculations. The option "automatically update links" in LO prefs are set.

In all LO versions up to 4.0.6 it works fine with no problems. The values from the source spreadsheet appear in destination spreadsheet. Calcs are done as expected.

Rising with the 4.1.x (tried all up to 4.1.3.2) now do not update the links automatically anymore. The referencing cells contain only #REF and calculation/formulars fail. Doing a manual update via "Edit->Links...->Update" works and all values are reread from the source spreadsheet.

Opening the same spreadsheet(s) with LO versions 3.x and up to 4.0.6 work correctly, the values are linked and updated as expected.

Maybe it is of concern: both spreadsheets are password protected. On loading, the password for both spreadsheets are prompted (and entered correctly).

Attach two screenshots. One shows the spreadsheet opened with 4.0.6. The other the same spreadsheet with 4.1.3.2.

Additional info:
When the source spreadsheet is loaded into calc and THEN the destination spreadsheet is opened, so that both spreadsheets are open and loaded, all link updates work as expected. So the reported bug occurs only if the links have to be updated from a spreadsheet not in memory.

Hi Rudolf, thanks for reporting.

The option about what you are talking I think is:
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc/General - Updating.

But there are new options depending on the file type:
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc/Formula - Recalculation on file load.

Please try, and let us know if it solves your issue.

Hello,

>The option about what you are talking I think is:
>Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc/General - Updating.

This option is set, but doesn't do the right thing.

>But there are new options depending on the file type:

In the german interface it reads "ODF Tabellendokument (nicht mit LibreO". The text ist cut off. The help pages don't mention about this options. So i didn't know, what this means. But - unfortunately - it doesn't change anything.

BUT: Loading the source spreadsheet first, than the referencing spreadsheet and than SAVE (it's important to do!) the referencing one, solves the problem. Now in 4.1.x it works like in 4.0.x before. Loading only the referencing spreadsheet, manually update the links so that they appear right and saving the changed spreadsheet DON'T work. Only if both spreadsheets (source and referencing) are loaded in the right order and saving the last one solves the problem.

Strange...

I'm so sorry, but LO 4.1.5.3 still behaves near the same way. But 4.1.5.3 not always refuse to update the links, it does it from time to time. No schema when and why. The workaround is still to open the first (source) spreadsheet, then the second one.

Sorry to hear the issue remains. Changed the status to unconfirmed, to let's see if someone else can reproduce it.

This seems like it may be a duplicate of (or at least related to) bug 45532, which appears to have been fixed sometime in the v4.2 series. It would be good to have a pair of example files (like those in the linked bug) to test. Rudolf can you please mock-up a basic pair of test files (adapt the indicated ones if necessary) and / or re-test in a newer version of LO?

Status set to NEEDINFO. Please change the status back to UNCONFIRMED once the request information is provided. Thanks.

Installed now 4.2.5.2 on OSX. Currently i can say, that the problem with the not updated links seem to be gone. I don't know if it does matter, that the files in the meantime are overwritten with 4.1.x.

4.2.5.2 lacks a bit in translation of the UI, but seems mostly working so i will keep trying the next time.

Rudolf, thanks for reporting back. As per comment 10, RESOLVED as WORKSFORME (b/c there is no identified fix). If the issue returns, please feel free to REOPEN this bug.
Comment 12 Rudolf Kollien 2014-07-31 13:19:59 UTC
Works with LO 4.3.0.4 on Mac.
Changed to fixed.

WorksForMe is proper resolution if there is no clear code fix
