Problem description Currently in Impress there are 2 style categories available: - Graphical Styles - Presentation Styles I use and like the styles functionality in LibO in general very much. In Impress i defined some 10-20 styles. The problem I observe is that each style has 14 sub^elements, which require a lot of set-up work to define a few styles with all sub-elements required. All the many variations which are in Impress given are great and needed in general However, very often company regulations or personal preferences require a strong limitation of the possible features of a graphical elements. I personally use as 5 standard fillings with certain fonts but the text options require a few more variations. Thus the 5 standard fillings with certain fonts would than become 15 standard fillings with certain fonts and text feactures. This would explode the number of current Graphical Styles Proposal Add A new style category "Graphical Styles Elements" which allow creation of styles for all 14 subelements. This would allow users to create styles like Area_red Area_blue Area_gradient_ bluewhite_vertical etc Text_ top left alignement Text_ word wrap_no resize etc Line_red Line_blue LIne_redthin LIne_red thick etc Such a functionality would allow me to have a few styles for graphical objects (as they are right now) and add a few Graphical Styles Basics. The latter I could use to create the varitions of the first styles. My current work around is a list of styles I am using to adjust graphical objects the way I want them to appear in my company standard. I can be contacted for discussions and tests. Operating System: All Version: 4.1.4.2 release
Hi :) I've read your proposal a few times, but do not get my head around it... I mean, it already is possible to create styles like Area_red Area_blue etc etc from the Default style... So would you pls be so kind to explain in a different way what you mean :) thanks a lot. Cor
Hi Cor, Thanks for reading the proposal. When I now create a style: Area_red and I want to change an object from another color to red using the style Area_red, all other elements of graphical objects must be the same.(font, font size, color, line, alignment, etc) as in the original object otherwise they change the same time the area color changes to red. If I only want to change only the color, I can do so by opening the Area settings and select the red I want to use. This is always possible but a bit cumbersome in the case or company template. In my company template (and this is valid for many companies) only the use of a few, well defined colors is permitted. (The same is valid for fonts, line colors etc) For such cases a set of "Graphical Style Elements" would be very effective. Thus if I define Area_red and apply it, all other of an object will remain the same except the area color will change to red. The same is valid for any other "Graphical Style Element". If I my explanations are still unclear, please ask again. ROSt
Hi ROSt, thanks for replying and the extra explanation. (In reply to comment #2) > Thus if I define Area_red and apply it, all other of an object will remain > the same except the area color will change to red. > > The same is valid for any other "Graphical Style Element". OK, that is clear. But then I think: how much does that differ (it does, I know) from applying direct formatting ? You suggest a sort of stapled use of styles, after all. And you know what you can do with inherritence of styles too? Style X = (example) Bold, Green, Red line, Blue background in Style Y (based on X) only change line to Yellow.. Then a change in the other attributes of Style X will also affect style Y. Your proposal would add another different logic-behaviour. Is it needed that much, that it would make it worth (apart from the enginering time, also the extra complicexity it would introduce ..) ? Cheers, Cor
Hi Cor, I know that this request would add complexity. Unfortunately. I just think it would make sense and increase productivity especial for "corporate ID" requirements. Because I know many companies which care about their presentation styles I wrote this enhancement request. I also understand that our resources are limited..... Your proposals with style Y, style X is my current work around. To keep always track and make sure all is updated. I added a table with all this information at the end of my Impress template.... and delete it before I present.... .
OK, thanks for the info. Set this to New. A nice one to look at when considering improvements in Impress.
Hi ROSt, (In reply to bugquestcontri from comment #2) > Thus if I define Area_red and apply it, all other of an object will remain > the same except the area color will change to red. Reading this - coincidentally: it seems to me that the use case you describe needs that it is possible to apply-combine multiple styles on one object. Is my assumption correct? In Writer that is possible, but only when you apply a character style to a part of a paragraph.
