Description gidmanr 2014-02-01 20:39:31 UTC
On upgrading to the latest version and running the application as a standard user a dialog box opens and says:-

"The LibreOffice configuration has been changed. Under Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Advanced, select the Java runtime environment you want to have used by LibreOffice."

The dialog box has an OK box to click, which does close the box, only for it to immediately reopen. It will never allow the software to run, and thus does NOT allow LibreOffice to run.

The above behaviour does NOT occur when logging on as an administrator, when the user interface does open properly. However, the settings for an administrator do NOT carry over to a standard user, which should happen.

Did you select the Java runtime environment to be used by LibreOffice ?

Have you installed extensions written in Java like LanguageTool ?

That's the problem. I couldn't get past that dialog box to open the main interface. The dialog box would close and IMMEDIATELY reopen. The whole LibreOffice suite became unavailable to a standard user.

The problem seems to be that this is a parameter that is set by each user, which is nonsensical. The JRE is upgraded at an administrator level, and this is where the usage should be set. The administrator account CAN set this parameter, and then use LibreOffice. If this parameter was set so that it is set centrally and then affects ALL users, then there would be a consistent approach across all users.

There are some details that would be set per user, but this should NOT be one of them.

The only way I could progress was to remove the latest version, and to regress to the previous version. This does allow the interface to be opened and the required JRE to be selected. However, this is still on a per user basis.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to reset the status to unconfirmed after my questions have been answered.

@reporter: do you still encounter the same problem with current stable version?

Best regards. JBF
