The draw object on page 8 repeats as "ghost image" on all pages

Inserting an Draw object into a writer frame in rare circumstances gives "ghost images" on all pages of the document, undo does not work, giving an corrupted document that I cannot restore.

I frequently backup my files and create new versions, yet this bug costs me 1/2 ... 1 day of work every few months. This is not a new bug but I can't remember when it has plagued me for the first time.

Hopefully, the import / export versions in LO 4.2.x will become more mature so that I can finally transfer all my legacy documents to MS Office.

Hi. What you have here isn't a bug. If you take a good look at your "ghost" diagram you'll discover you've attached its text anchor to the paragraph inside your page header. Since the header repeats on every page, so does the diagram. Turn the header off in the page properties and you'll see the diagram vanish with it.

Actually I consider this a pretty powerful feature and intentionally use it with some of my page styles to have different images appear in the background of certain sections, chapters, facing pages, etc.

However, your document does load and save very, very slowly on my system, and I'm not sure why it corrupts on you when you modify it. It saves fine for me.

Repaired document

I've attached a repaired copy of your document.

Here's is how I fixed it using English UI terms (sorry, I'm not nearly fluent enough in German):

  1) Select the diagram image
  2) Right mouse click
  3) From the right-click menu choose "Anchor" > "To Frame"

I repositioned the diagram to be at the centre bottom of Rahmen2, so you'll need to tweak it and/or the formula frame so they don't overlap, but that's it.

Hope this helps.

Repaired document (cleaned)

Whoops! Ignore the first repaired document. I'd added some dummy text after the heading on page 1 to test your save corruption issue and then forgot to remove it. Here's a clean copy without any vandalism to your text. Sorry about that.

Oops. I really should have known that and I'm really sorry for my "flamey" mail - I guess I'm a bit stressed out at the moment and had one too many problems with LO. Thanx a lot for your support.

You are right that this is a powerful feature for watermarking etc. but I think it also is a dangerous feature. I'm using OO and LO for 7 years now on a daily basis, still I got completely lost and frustrated. IMHO, there is a combination of three minor problems here that triggered my problem:

- the undo - function doesn't work reliably (that's the first thing I tried, of course)

- I have no idea how the image got anchored at the header. I did it on purpose right now and the image does appear on every page - but aligned to the top of the page as is to be expected. In the buggy file the placement of the image is still the same as before, somewhere in the middle of the page. Maybe there is something fishy with the anchoring of images, I do have some other problems from time to time (images "disappearing" or being shifted to some other part of the document - all occuring only spuriously)

- it is difficult/impossible to select the image: you have to click it inside the narrow header - when it is placed at the top of the page. In the buggy file I still can't select the image (I wonder how you did it?) because it is shifted outside the header. That's why I was not able to remove it manually or change the anchoring.

And yes, the documents loads slow (the difference is especially notable when you work with documents of a similar complexity under MS Office ...). I always thought this is general LO problem because all my documents load that slow.

Hi, Could you please submit one bug per issue you encounter with a step by step explanation on how to reproduce it. I'm closing this issue as it was not a bug. Thanks - Sophie
