Description Stefan Knorr (astron) 2014-02-25 08:36:51 UTC
The new Sifr theme has the unfortunate property of being rather hard to see on dark backgrounds. Since LibreOffice is not able to recolor icons automatically or to use SVG icons, it is probably necessary to create a new theme.

+ Proposed theme name: Sifr Light
+ Proposed base color: #d3d7cf (from Tango palette: second from left, v/ second
  from right for normal Sifr)
+ Should inherit icons missing in Sifr Light itself from hicontrast theme.

The best way is to generate a light version of the icons. SVG is not an option even if it's supported, it will slow down the startup of LO and will eat a lot of memory.

I would like to know if there is a way to change the color of the pngs when the background is dark, instead of having two identical icon sets with different colors..

Hi, I hope I am doing the right thing, sorry - this is my first post on Bugzilla. I read a lot of FAQs. Anyway - I made a Sifr Light theme from the current one, basically because I needed it. Attached you will find the screenshot and the .zip file with the light icons.

Thank you Milos, I'll add these icons to LO 4.3

If you like you can join our work on Sifr icons project at https://github.com/libodesign/flat-icons

gorgeous! thanks this looks great. since dark program environments will be the future (see where adobe is going with lightroom or photoshot) and dark is much more friendly on the eyes this is greatly appreciated.

I wish I could just use those color options from the screenshot by just downloading them as a theme... having to set each and every color individually can be pretty annoying. but that's another story for another bug.

I would like to note that I only changed the Sifr icons. The old (color-ish) ones are still there, and some of them don't look good at all on dark themes.

Per Ahmed's note, I've cloned the github repo, and will look into working the light theme in/with the ongoing work on Sifr there.

@Foss
I (obviously) agree. I will browse through here and try to help with work on a "Dark" mode.
