Description lo-user 2014-04-04 20:34:51 UTC
Problem description:
The selection of a non-empty single cell of a table in an odt-document by using the shortcut-key Crtl+A doesn't work any more.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a new document in LO-writer
2. create a table with several column and rows
3. write some text in one cell
4. place the cursor in this specific cell
5. press Crtl+A

Current behavior:
the whole table is selected

Expected behavior:
only the cell with the cursor within should have been selected

refer to https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Shortcut_Keys_for_Writer, paragraph "Shortcut Keys for Tables in LibreOffice Writer", description at "Crtl+A

maybe this behavior is an unwanted side-effect of fixing Bug 69893
Operating System: Windows 7
Version: 4.2.2.1 release
Last worked in: 4.1.5.3 release

Hi lo-user, thanks for reporting.

Ctral+A as it is explained in your link is for select All, and works the same in all LibreOffice applications.

Not only the table is selected, the all document is selected.

Hi mariosv,

you are right, not only the whole table is selected, actually the whole document.

However, by pressing Crtl-A once, only the content of the cell in which the cursor is placed should be selected. Pressing Crtl-A once again shortly after the frist Crtl-A should then select the whole table (not the whole document).

Crtl-A in odt-documents has this special (and for me very useful) behavior within tables. This worked fine in former releases.

This behavior is described far down on the page https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Shortcut_Keys_for_Writer

Below the headline "Shortcut Keys for Tables in LibreOffice Writer" it is written:

"Ctrl+A - If the active cell is empty: selects the whole table. Otherwise: selects the contents of the active cell. Pressing again selects the entire table."

I hope, I was able to give the further information that seemed to be needed according to the status "needinfo".

You are right, I had only seen the general description.
Reproducible:
Win7x64Ultimate
Version: 4.2.2.1 Build ID: 3be8cda0bddd8e430d8cda1ebfd581265cca5a0f
Version: 4.2.4.0.0+ Build ID: 172c33146d7e8b4f741d52ab7c9dfdb55c847401
  TinderBox: Win-x86@42, Branch:libreoffice-4-2, Time: 2014-04-01_09:38:08
Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 2aaf9a5c9a06b770598c84b427c5099bf127d856

The last version working for me:
Version: 4.1.6.0.0+ Build ID: 0b772a163b2536fc55aa3b4de925119e33af769

But the issue is only if the table is the first element in the document, if there are text before the table works fine.

If you can confirm please make more explicit the title.

You are right. The unexpected behavior exists only, if a table is the first element in the document. However, if a table is the first element in the document, the usual selection doesn't work at any other table in the document as well. I'm going to change the title.
