Show the current file name and path in the titlebar. If path name is long and titlebar can't display all of it, insert ... (periods) to replace middle part of path name. Allow this feature to be enabled/disabled with a checkbox on global options page. Same request as bug https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=105909 in OpenOffice.
Hi oswcab, thanks for filing the request. What use could you explain for this? For me, when I open a file, I select the name, and focus on that. In the case that I do want to know the path, I do a Ctrl+Shift+S (Save As) see it and hit Esc to close the window again. What else :) ? Regards, Cor
In fact, that's what I always do. However, I found it cumbersome: frequently I work with a bunch of folders with the same structure, i.e, they all have the same file structure, files with identical names (journal.ods, journal.odt, journal.xml, journal.csv, etc ... because that's a convention we have with our editors for they to transmit us information). What differentiates one file form another one with the same name is the folder they are stored in. This files are supposed to be treated by a machine (an application I'm developing) but as I said, I frequently have to compare many files (four or more at the same time) all called 'journal.odt', for example, and it's difficult to remember which is which. If editing is needed, accidental modification of the wron file is always a possibility. In the future, our technicians will be confronted with the same case when doing quality control before the final publication. Finally I'd say that MS Office offers this feature but it's useless for us because it refuses to open two files with the same name even if they are located in different folders, a bug (a feature they said) I find absolutely ridiculous. Thanks
OK > to new. And then with a loooooong name, it should be something as /home/user/aa...../xxx/name.odt ? Cheers, Cor
Yes, I think it would be a good option. Thank you
I'd like to vote +1 for this bug. Please make it happen. I often use files with the same name but from different locations. It would really help to see the difference of files paths when using icon only task manager.
+1. "Save as" to figure out the path is a non-obvious workaround. It's what I always do, but it certainly interrupts the flow compared to just looking at the titlebar.
I agree with comment #3, sometimes my file names are the same but for different clients and thus in different folders. It would help in two ways to have the full path appear in the title bar. Besides the title bar, the path would also show in the task bar so I would have more information than that there are three files with the same name. Thanks. John.
