graphical explanation

Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. In a text block we select some text in the same format and type something

Current behavior:
It formats what we typed as the symbol right before the selection

Expected behavior:
The format of the typed text must be as the first symbol in the selection

It also reproduces in Writer

Operating System: Windows 8
Version: 4.2.4.2 release
Comment 1 ign_christian 2014-06-12 08:49:08 UTC
Reproduced with 4.2.4.2 - Ubuntu 12.04
Comment 2 ign_christian 2014-10-22 02:36:50 UTC
Also reproduced with LO 3.3.0.4 and AOO 4.1.1, seems inherited from OOO and I guess this issue should've been reported before.

Have installed LO 5.2.4 in Win8 but couldn't start it. The start up screen was hanging for more than 5 min before I killed it.
Comment 6 Alexander 2017-01-04 09:55:56 UTC
Succeeded 32bit version:
Version: 5.2.4.2
Build ID: 3d5603e1122f0f102b62521720ab13a38a4e0eb0
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Windows 6.2; UI Render: default;
Locale: ru-RU (ru_RU); Calc: group

The bug is present, the behavior is the same, nothing changed.

Comment 8 Thomas Lendo 2019-09-09 19:39:54 UTC
Still reproducible.
Version: 6.4.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: f76dbe5dc581845996a8bd5f5109c5e2ff5a27b0
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2019-09-09_05:13:31

One of the typical situations when LibreOffice deletes text and inserts the new text afterwards instead of "exchanging" text. See meta bug 127250.
Comment 9 Thomas Lendo QA 2020-08-16 12:45:10 UTC
Maybe a duplicate of Bug 79717 - EDITING: Overwriting selected text doesn't always maintain formatting (edit) although it's for Writer.
Comment 10 Thomas Lendo 2020-08-24 19:13:40 UTC
Can't reproduce this issue anymore according to the steps in the attachment.

Tested with
Version: 7.1.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: a06a83b29a9da770787bffe416b138102aa12531
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: de-AT (de_AT.UTF-8); UI: en-US
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2020-08-24_01:03:26
Calc: CL

I make it a duplicate of bug 79717 as there is described the same situation and it seems that is was fixed.

Dear Alexander,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
