Description David 2014-06-08 14:16:34 UTC
This is an ENHANCEMENT REQUEST.

Problem description: `CTRL+]` and `CTRL+[` are the keyboard shortcuts to increase or reduce the font size of the selected text by 2 points. This works fine, so long as the selected text is of a uniform size. This screenshot shows the operation: http://i.imgur.com/nwuTA8s.png

However, when text of multiple sizes is selected, this shortcut/manipulation is not available - there is no way to select text that includes both of, say, 10pt and 12pt, and with a single application of the shortcut, make it all 12pt and 14pt. This scenario is illustrated here: http://i.imgur.com/vxp3y27.png

To increase or reduce text of different sizes uniformly thus requires multiple select/change procedures.

The ENHANCEMENT REQUEST, then, is to make it possible to apply the shortcut(s) to mixed-size text selections.

Note: this desired behaviour will be expected by those migrating from MS Word, where this ability to adjust mixed point sizes in selected text (also with the same shortcut keys, but in increments +/- of 1pt) has been available since at least Word XP.

With that in mind, it would be a bonus to permit the user to set the increment/decrement value as an option.

Confirmed in Linux Mint in 3.3.0, 4.2.4 and 4.3 beta.

@iplaw67: @qubit: should this be classified as an enhancement or a feature that should work.

I don't know if this ever worked previously, one would have to test on OOo 3.2.x to see.

As for OSX, it would be interesting to see whether NeoOffice has this functionality.

If it has never worked in any version of OOo / LO / NeoOffice, it should remain a RFE, IMHO.

The first place i could test that ctrl+[ or ctrl+] work at all was in 3.6.7, as its dont work in 3.3.0. But that it would work for text with multiple font sizes, i couldnt find an intense of that, so i'm setting this to enhancement for now.

I vote for this.

I use LO/OO/NeoO for long time and I thing it never worked. I was surprised since I was get used to this from other programs on Mac and maybe on Win as well.

Bad part of it is also, that ctrl+[ does work on English keyboard and probably some others but not our, Czech one. I even have no idea how to write [ without switching keyboard. But I have disabled switching keyboard layout from keyboard since I often did it accidentally. Heavy short cut user. :-)

And usage of such feature. You usually do not use it at regular document but when you creating leaflets or flayers and play a lot with font sizes and managing text to fit well on page.

Well it doesn't work on OSX 10.9.2 with a French keyboard layout and LO 4.2.4.2.

However, it also doesn't work with just Ctrl-] in TextEdit.app on OSX. I have to use Shift+Cmd+Alt+) to get the selected text to move up or down in size on a Macbook (note that Shift+Alt+) gives the square bracket on this keyboard.

So, if this is ever going to be implemented, it would also need to take account of the keyboard shortcuts that already exist for each keyboard language layout.
