Description Jim 2014-06-21 15:49:44 UTC
Problem description: inserted photo is cropped to fit page, while retaining orientation, and appears exactly as intended in LO Writer; however, export to PDF causes cropped image to "lose crop" and displays image beyond intended area

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert jpg photo into document (widescreen photo ratio)
2. Crop document to fit within 6.33" square format (6.33" is maximum to fit within MY required margins for proper display/printing)
3. Change "wrap" to "through" and "in background", as photo is a background image for custom report.
4. Increase transparency to 50% or greater, for easier viewing of foreground text
5. LO Writer displays document EXACTLY as intended.
6. Export document directly as PDF.
7. Opening PDF document reveals that cropped image has expanded to the nearly 8.5" width of page, ignoring 6.33" parameters that were specified.

Current behavior: see above; this behavior was observed in a new installation of Lubuntu 14.04, with LibreOffice 4.2.3.3 installed from Lubuntu Software Center. It may have appeared before this, but was only apparent to me when a new machine, with newer OS, and newer version of LO was introduced into my workflow. (see expected behavior) Also, I have installed several alternative PDF viewers to ensure this was not a PDF viewer issue; all PDF viewers displayed the PDF document in the same incorrect manner. Therefore, I believe this is a LibreOffice issue, however specifically restricted to PDF export, as LibreOffice displays the document correctly.

A final test, rather than "export directly as PDF", I chose to "print" document to my "PDF Printer". This resulted in the same output as "export directly as PDF."

Expected behavior: Cropped image should retain 6.33" square display in PDF document, identical to LO Writer display. This is the behavior that my current desktop production machine exhibits, running Ubuntu 12.04.4 and Libreoffice 3.5.7.2 installed from Ubuntu Software Center.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.2.3.3 release

Thanks for the report Jim,

I guess this one is a duplicate of bug 63786, fixed in 4.2.4.
Can you pls check there?
Best,
Cor

Thank you for such quick replies, tommy & Cor. I did see the bug regarding *.svg files and PDFs, but the *.svg threw me off, versus *.jpg & *.png files. I apologize for the duplicate report, but thank you for sending me to that solution, especially so quickly! LOVE the expedience!

FWIW, I did purge Libreoffice from my new installation (installed via Lubuntu Software Center) and installed LibrOffice from the repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-2, which provided version 4.2.5 when installed.

I'm very happy to confirm that the reported bug has indeed been squashed in version 4.2.5. IMO, both bugs can be marked SOLVED! Again, THANK YOU for your prompt attention and expedient replies!

thanks for confirming and your kind words. It's not always that things work so fast here, by the way ;)
Cheers,
