Problem description: Normal navigation within a table is to tab from cell to cell. If the cell contains content that has internal tabbing (bullets, numbers), navigation stops and continued tabbing creates tabs within the cell where the first tab was encountered. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a standard table (3 columns by 3 rows) and fill the cells with text, making sure to have multiple paragraphs within the cells. 2. In one of the middle cells, number the paragraphs. 3. Starting in the upper-left cell, tab from cell to cell. Current behavior: The tab-to-cell behaviour will stop as soon as the internal tabs of the bulleted paragraphs is encountered. Expected behavior: Pressing the tab character should take the user to the next cell within the table. Additionally, the total content of the cell should be selected. Operating System: Windows 8 Version: 4.1.6.2 release
Hi Michael, Thanks for the report. What you experience is the interference of two specific behaviours: tabbing in tables, and tabbing at the start of a line where bulleting/numbering is applied. IMO it's not OK to change the behaviour so that tabbing doesn't work any more with bulleting/numbering. For moving to another cell there are other possibilities with the key board. Regards, Cor
Libre 0ffice is being offered as an alternative to Microsoft Office. As such, the expectation is that handling of table cells should approximate what has been available since some of the earliest versions of the Micrcosoft product. I would expect movement through the cells, with selection of the individual cell contents upon each press of the Tab key. Embedded tabs (tabs internal to the cell contents) are added in the Microsoft product using Ctrl-Tab. This is not the observed behaviour. I received a document written in the Microsoft product with a set of tables containing columns for grading and commentary of individual results in the columns to the left. One of the columns contains key points of the test in a bulleted list before the test results. As a decades-long user of the Microsoft product, l expected to be able to use the tab key to navigate to the next set of grading and commentary columns. The tab action did not select the cell contents but moved between cells until the cell containing the bulleted list. The next tab key action added a tab within the cell. This is the wrong action. Hmm, you'll discover more features that are a bit different. OpenOffice.org and now LibreOffice are not the same as MsOffice. When possible, there is nothing wrong with making changes in that direction. And it actually happens e.g. with Calc features. However I explained the conflict of features that LibreOffice offers here - maybe that's not the case in Word - that makes it necessary to choose..
