Related bug Bug 86071

DTA files are used by the Stata software. Import data in Libo Cal, allow to preserve the data (export to ODS) and be able to do basic statistical analysis.

See:http://listarchives.documentliberation.org/www/discuss/msg00095.html

DTA file spec:
http://www.stata.com/help.cgi?dta

Test files
https://github.com/bedf/PSPP-dev-utilities/tree/master/data-files

Thanks

Greater file format support is generally a good thing. That being said:
* How popular is the DTA file format?
* How many users of Stata will want to import their data into LibreOffice?

Priority here might turn out to be lower.

Providing the spec and test files is greatly appreciated!

It really is very difficult to measure the popularity of software, especially for its specificity and use. An approach to statistical software is located in the following article: http://r4stats.com/articles/popularity/

The file format used by Stata is not popular as the format of SPSS (facto standard), however, Stata is widely used in research (quick search on research articles: sociology, psychology, economics, biostatistics, etc.), which has increased in recent years for its ease of use, better performance, cross-platform support (native gui gtk+ 2 in Linux) and low cost (compared to alternatives).

LibreOffice can give freedom to students and researchers, to preserve their data matrix and perform basic analysis, charts, diagrams, etc., without relying on a proprietary application.

I appreciate your consideration
Cheers
