the selected image shows, but before clicking it looked like the others with the error

In Writer, when there are more externally linked images shown at once, some of them aren't rendered… a blinking error is shown instead.

You can reproduce the bug by inserting these three images in Writer: https://mega.co.nz/#!kQUQARLQ!BrWwe5mNdTDzgY73W7AUW3CVd2u0DSP-IZomcsNyMZY

I reproduced it even on Windows 7. It happens when you add about two externally linked images to this example document: https://mega.co.nz/#!oV12GbzY!9QPDGQQo9aXsDPw35RaGaXlMP5Yfe0Lvcj47zFoTlvU

Tried with your document and your images, but I don't have to click to see them.

Have you tried inserting additional images from the folder? It behaves strangely. I once again opened the example document on my two computers (Vista x64 and 7 x64)... on Vista I had to insert three externally linked images to make the bug appear, on 7 all but one image were not shown directly after opening the document.

Yes, I meant that I inserted your images from https://mega.co.nz/#!kQUQARLQ!BrWwe5mNdTDzgY73W7AUW3CVd2u0DSP-IZomcsNyMZY to your provided document.

Disabling tooltips solved the problem for me, I think it has something in common with this: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/46393/citation-styles-that-include-the-authors-names-freeze-libreoffice/#Item_0

This is a long one.

Note:
Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> General -> Use LibreOffice dialogue boxes was checked for these tests. If the OS dialogue is used then it's not until after step 16 (first test below) that the flashing boxes happens.

1. Download images in comment 1.
2. Extract images to folder.
3. New Text Document.
4. Insert → Image.
5. Select 1.png, keep Link unchecked, Open.
6. Return a few times for spacing.
7. Insert → Image.
8. Select 14.png, check Link, Open, Keep Link.
9. Return a few times for spacing.
