Description Chris King 2015-02-02 20:38:57 UTC
Created attachment 113066 [details]
PowerPoint Slide with 2 textboxes. Clicking in either changes the character spacing in that textbox.

A slide imported from PowerPoint contains a textbox. (The font in the attachment is Linux Libertine; also observed with the default font, Calibri Light.) After importing into Impress, the spacing between characters changes when you click in the textbox, then changes back when you click outside the textbox. I expected the spacing to not change during editing.

Steps to reproduce:
Import a slide containing text in a textbox from PowerPoint. Click in the textbox, then click outside the textbox.

What's observed:
The text spacing changes when entering and leaving the textbox.

What's expected:
The text spacing is expected to remain constant, whether the text is being edited or not.

Bug is not in bibisect-43all.tar.xz range.

Mark as bibisected.
Comment 3 Matthew Francis 2015-02-09 03:01:32 UTC
@R.Yu - Please don't mark bugs as "bibisected" unless an actual commit (range) has been identified

@Beluga - I see slight character layout changes even at the start of the 43all bibisect repository (not as easy to see, but I suspect that the essential bug is the same, and other font handling changes have merely made it more obvious). I don't have 3.3 available on Linux to test, but possibly this is in fact Inherited from OOo?

Setting:
Whiteboard -> preBibisect
Version -> 3.5.0 release (the earliest release after the master version I tested)
Comment 4 Buovjaga 2015-02-09 06:21:20 UTC
Strange. Now I could indeed reproduce with 3.5.0.
3.3.0 had a white bg, I changed the text color to black and could observe the title kerning change.

Shows that the bug is present in presentations that are not imported.

The original report was for text that was imported from PowerPoint. The attachment was created in Impress, showing that this bug is not limited to imported files.

Removed reference to PowerPoint import from the title.
Comment 6 Chris King 2015-02-09 16:34:53 UTC
Changing kerning does not stop the change in character spacing. For example, in the second attachment, select the text, right-click and select "Character...". On the position tab, under "Spacing", remove the check from "Pair kerning". The text still jumps around on clicking inside and outside the textbox.

Still present in 6.2.0.3.
However, it now appears that the lines are moving, but that the spacing between letters is not changing. In other words, the margins may be changing when the focus changes from the cursor being in the textbox to not in the textbox.
Comment 13 Buovjaga 2019-02-24 19:24:41 UTC
On Windows, 6.2.0, both lines move slightly down upon focus.
With a master build, only the top line moves - upwards!

In older versions we might see letters like i and e moving horizontally, but that behaviour is gone.

Dear Chris King,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
