Description dtr 2015-02-19 07:28:25 UTC
In the Tools > AutoCorrect options I am entering ‘ —’ (a space an em dash) to the Replace field and ‘ —’ (non-breaking space and em dash) to the With field (such are the rules of typography in my language). When I type space followed by em dash in a text, nothing happens (non-breaking spaces are seen after setting checkbox in Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Formatting Ads > [Display of] Non-breaking spaces). At the same time other replacement patterns work—(r) becomes ®, for example. In the same document, on the same line, with a replacement that was made a moment ago.

I'm not sure that you can use the autocorrect engine to replace a "normal space" with a "non breaking space"...

is the "text only" checkbox flagged in that ‘ —’ (a space an em dash) to ‘ —’ (non-breaking space and em dash) replacement?

Yes, and it doesn’t seem like I can take the flag off since it’s disabled whatever I’d do—clicking on an existed rule or typing a new one.

maybe you have to try a different approach.

type a "non breaking space plus em-dash" in a writer document.

than select that and click on the Tools/autocorrect options menu.
this way the "non breaking space plus em-dash" should be already in the "replace with" and the text only should be unflagged.

now "type normal space plus em-dash" in the "replace" field and see if the autocorrection gets saved as you desire.

Since the Replace button was disabled, pressing OK button was the only choice. Nothing changed. I’ve typed a sentence with space followed by em dash and it wasn’t replaced. I think I should really stick to LaTeX and do replacements in emacs’s hunspell or running before the PDF preview, so I’m not interested in solving this anymore, but thanks for the effort.

I'm not sure you did the right thing.
the "replace" field is not disabled.

did you keep the "non breaking space em-dash" selected whils loading the autocorrect options menu item?

anyway you are using an obsolete LibO release.
4.2.8 is no longer supported. you should upgrade to 4.3.6
