When edit a document in "track changes" mode, I expect that if I delete or edit a word and its trailing whitespace, I will be shown the trailing whitespace as deleted. However it is not shown. I have set an option to shos deleteted text as red and struck through. Deleted white space should show as a red strike-through (looks like a hyphen) but does show as simple white space. If I delete/edit a word with preceding white space, that does show. I'm guessing a fencepost bug. This applies if I'm editing docx or odt format. Possibly related: search for a word and when you find it, then hit shift-rightarrow. This should add the white space to the selection. It moves the cursor, but it does not show that space as selected.
