Proposing an improvement: When pages have a header or footer except on the first page, the first page's top or bottom is larger than it is on other pages. It would be neater if the top line on the first page is at the same distance from the paper's edge as the top of the header is on other pages, and similarly for bottoms of pages.

My hardware description is a guess.

Please attach a screenshot illustrating the current situation and, if possible, a manipulated version of the same as a proposal of how it should look.

I did test it myself applying "First page" style, inserting dummy text and using 2-page view. Yet the only difference I'm noticing is related to the bottom. The text area of the first page could be taller at the bottom by one character height or less, if symmetry would be desired.

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the image(s).

Hypothetyical example of layout difference.

Here's a snapshot of the present effect, based on a header. On both pages the body starts at the same distance from the paper's top edge, but only p. 2 has a header, p. 1 does not, so the top text of any kind is closer to the top edge of the paper on p. 2 but is farther on p. 1. I'd like p. 1 without a header to begin at the same distance from the paper's top edge as p. 2 already does. However, perhaps I'm using a too-old version of LibreOffice. If you can't replicate the effect I saw, maybe you're using a later version and the enhancement is already present.

Yes, I tested with 4.4.1 and did not observe such a drastic difference. You could do a parallel install of it, if you don't want to fully switch to it yet: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel/Linux

If I use Default Style and have different headers on left and right then I can reproduce the screenshot.

If you use Left Page and Right Page styles then you can add a header to only one of the page styles and the text on the page without the header will line up with the header on the other page.

You can also do a First Page followed by a Default Page and have a header on only one of them but if your document is longer than two pages then you will have to have manual page breaks to get another First Page or a custom page which could interrupt the flow.

Interesting, but I don't use different headers on odd and even pages, although I probably do use the Default style or no style and make my own each time. But apparently a version later than mine eliminated the problem (per comment 3), so I see no reason to reopen, unless maybe if someone else does. Thanks.
