Description Robinson Tryon (qubit) 2015-02-25 21:12:45 UTC
The Ubuntu Touch platform is a powerful new GNU/Linux-based mobile OS.

Currently, the platform has some kind of weaksauce document viewer/(editor?) that doesn't hold a candle to LibreOffice. It would be great for both Ubuntu Touch and for LibreOffice to have support here.

It's likely that some of the work being done to make LibreOffice work on Android would also be useful for other mobile OSes, such as Touch.

(low priority for now)

I doubt the android port will assist with this as libreoffice can already run on ubuntu touch. :D

Ah, cool; I knew that someone had gotten LibreOffice running w/VNC and an external display, but I didn't know that they'd gotten the application to run directly on the phone. If I find time to get Ubuntu Touch running on my Nexus 7, I'll investigate further.

As ubuntu touch is running on Mir, that means any X11 app running through XMir can run on it.

Bjoern even tweeted about it here - https://twitter.com/Sweet5hark/status/554823555884785665

Ideally this would involve creating a native, touch-optimized UI for Ubuntu. I don’t think we want users to run LibreOffice with its desktop UI, in a phone.

Ubuntu touch is both for phones and tablets, so having a desktop UI for the tablet isnt the most optimal thing, but it isnt a bad thing as other companies are doing the same thing within a browser for tablets.

I doubt phone users with 5" screens would be heavy into writing documents and a viewer might be the best thing for those users. I've seen MS Office on a phone and it isnt anything i would care to use, but thats just me. :D

Looks like this can be closed now. :D

:-)

<presses the That-Was-Easy button>

I guess the primary thing left here would be to consider adding a more touch-friendly interface, however that's probably best filed as a separate bug (and will be left as an exercise for the reader...or anyone else who desireth such editing capabilities).
