Description rderooij685 2015-03-08 20:51:25 UTC
I'm using the latest LibreOffice-fresh, but what I'm really missing is some default cover pages like all the newer versions of Microsoft Office have. It makes it really easy to make a report look decent.

Making a nice looking cover page in LibreOffice takes more time, and unfortunately, there aren't that many templates on the LibreOffice site.

It would also be nice to have more quick styles available, like MS Office does. I like LibreOffice a lot and those features would make it even better.

IIRC, we have had some plans for encouraging the creation of more templates

(CC'ing sophie, who I think was coordinating some of that?)

Hi, just to be sure, are you aware of http://templates.libreoffice.org/. Maybe you would like to upload your templates here? The next version 4.5 will contain more of them as there will a localization mechanism in this version, but still we need volunteers to provide them.
Concerning the Styles, there is currently a lot of predefined styles in the Styles and Formatting window, even more than in Office as we offer also page styles. So I'm closing this issue for the moment, this is a work in progress, please join us on the design list and help us to offer you a nice cover page :) Sophie

Hi,

First of all, thank you both for answering my question.

I was already aware of templates.libreoffice.org, but thanks for letting me know.

I'm not that skilled at designing documents, but I can see what I can do. Maybe I can replicate some MS Office templates?

I'm also aware of the page styles. Those are great futures, but it's not exactly what I meant. Microsoft Office contains less of those styles indeed, but what I meant was the styling of those styles (hopefully, I'm clear enough). Those quick styles available in MS Office was what I meant. You can quickly choose for a "office" look, or a more standard black and white look. Currently, LibreOffice offers the standard black and white look, but no other styles.

This is what I'm referring to:

Also, the cover pages:

I'm aware that cover pages are available as templates, but having a few templates in LibreOffice itself would benefit the project in my opinion.

Again, thanks for answering my question! I'll think about contributing templates, but I'm not a skilled designer.

Hum, you can't copy proprietary material, it's not allowed.

Yes I know, but you can do that in your own templates and exchange styles between templates.

There will be more in the next version. We reduced the set because of lack of a mechanism to translate the template for the moment (LibreOffice should have the same set of features whatever the language :) But next version will have that mechanism allowing us to ship more samples.

No one of us are skilled designer, but we learn a lot from each others and we enhance our skills all together and... with fun :) Hope to see you soon!

Hmm, I'll look at the template licensing then. If only the software is proprietary but the templates aren't, then it won't be a problem. I hope that color schemes etc. aren't licensed proprietary, as that would be very restrictive in my opinion.

What about existing MS Office template clones at the template site, like those:

Clear! That would be a great feature. Good to hear that those things are being worked on.

That's a relieve! Well, I'll think about it. Thanks for your encouragement. :)
