I was sent twice a passworded doc. I couldn't open it meaningfully. 1st no menu (top) bar; 2nd corrupted text. Ever since on trying to open Libre Office (LO), goes through restore docs process; "opens" doc and others; on trying to close the doc when open LO fails and invites to close program. Don't need these corrupting docs would like to delete them but can't. 

Can't open any LO doc as all affected.

SimonJohn: you may rename your LO directory profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) and give it a new try.
