Currently the UI is too basic and lacks icons. Adding an expandable notification that allows control of the presentation without entering the full screen mode would be a nice improvement. Features such as a preview of the slide or the timer are possible via data items(it is a nice opportunity to change the whole message based communication to data syncing communication). I've been tinkering with the source code for a couple of days,the most notable improvement is shown below.
