Description Edmund Laugasson 2015-05-23 18:57:18 UTC
Using 64-bit Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.1 with 4.0.4-040004-generic kernel
LibreOffice version: 5.0.0.0.beta1
Build ID: 0a16c3dda4150008d9be6f24cbd15ac198d116d3
Locale: et-EE (et_EE.UTF-8)

Open the folder where current file is and activate the file in that folder - from File menu. Similar function is e.g. in PDF-viewer Evince.

Also this function is on the mouse right-click menu always available in Evince - so would it be also in LibreOffice.

This would be especially useful when people open file form mailbox or from internet and file will be downloaded first into temp folder and then opened.

Ok, I see the function in Evince. Never used it until today to test purpose.

Please, could you explain why it would be useful in LibreOffice. A use-case showing a real-life situation in which such a function would be better than ctrl+O

Setting status to NEEDINFO. Please set it back to UNCONFIRMED once you have provided requested information.

Best regards. JBF

The same purpose as in Evince - to find the place where did file go when opened. This might happen when open file over web with external program and also from e-mail software. Frequent problem is that people do not find the file where it was opened.

Second issue is that people do sometimes not know - how to open the location: which file manager to use and how to move to the right location.

Third use case - if accidentally closed the file manager then I can recursively and quickly reopen the file location.

I would totally exchange this with "Preview in Web Browser".. which I think is actually poisonous.

Please retest.
In 7.5 version at least, you can go to File - Properties, and we have Location, and if you click that address the folder is opened.

If this is NOT what you have reported, feel free to reopen this bug.

Version: 7.5.0.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 77cd3d7ad4445740a0c6cf977992dafd8ebad8df
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: ro-RO (ro_RO.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
Comment 6 Edmund Laugasson 2023-04-15 19:56:29 UTC
Basically it gives the location. I proposed to bring the "Open location" choice more visible - e.g. directly to File menu or even more visible - directly as button on toolbar or even on status bar.

Adolfo, we should let this bug status as it is, or we should mark it as New again? (based on comments 4, 5 and 6)
