It is convenient to see how they change the appearance when editing, so a vertically oriented text should remain vertical when editing, as implemented, for example, in Microsoft Office 2003.

Cannot support. 
What I see in Office 2003 and Office 2010 is that they behave similar to LO.
Please attach a mockup or screenshot.
