In Impress, if I look under View->Toolbars->Customize, I see there is a Text Box Formatting toolbar. However, this doesn't appear under the View->Toolbars as a toolbar I can select to display.

tested under Win8.1 x64 with LibO 4.4.3.2 and 5.1.0.0 alpha "Text Formatting" is not missing from the "View/Toolbars" selection list. tell your O/S and try resetting the user profile to see if bug persists https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resolving_corruption_in_the_user_profile
I am talking about "Text BOX Formatting" toolbar, not the Text Formatting toolbar, which is a different thing. OS is Fedora 22. Confirmed starting with pristine user profile.
sorry you are right. I confirm issue on 4.4.x and 5.1.x I've retested with older versions and it was the same with LibO 3.3.3 and even in OOo 3.3.0 so the issue is inherited from OOo I add Jay Philips and adolfo Jayme (UI experts) to CC list, to hear their opinion on this.
OK thanks for confirming. The only reason I noticed this is that I wanted the sub- and super-script buttons on the toolbars, and those buttons (in Impress) are in the Text Box Toolbar (as you can see from View->Toolbars->Customize). I realize I can add those buttons to other toolbars to achieve that particular goal, but having the Text Box Toolbar available would be really nice.
Hi Jonathan, From what i can see, Text Box Formatting is likely a toolbar that isnt used and that is why its not available in View > Toolbars, and likely needs to be removed from the customize dialog.
Ok, yes removing the toolbar would also make things more consistent, I agree.
could it be an easy hack?
Would be good to see from our new Impress experts if the toolbar is used anywhere in impress that warrants its visibility in the customize dialog.

You can now insert *two* 'Text Box" entries next to each other. 1. Open "Customize..." 2. Type in search field "Text box" -> There are two enties named "Text box". (The icons differ, because one has a rectangle with a dotted line around it.) 3. Click on the arrow "Add item" for both. 4. Open file menu. -> There are two enties named "Text Box", *both* have the rectangle with the dotted line. Only difference: On displays a "F2" shortcut. I added screenshots. Created attachment 143795 [details] "Text Box" listed twice in "Customize" menu
And of course, "Text Box" is listed a third time in "Insert" menu by default.
Mike: Regarding the 2 textbox items in Customize: the one with F2 shortcut is the "real" textbox command, the other is for form controls. If you criticize the naming please open a new bug. This bug is for the visibility of the text box formatting toolbar.
