General: After opening Writer and other applications of the LibreOffice suite, there is delay of ~30 seconds, during which time the application does not respond. Environment details: Windows 8.1, Java not installed, using default mitigation settings in MS EMET for swriter.exe etc. Files are all stored locally, not on network. LibreOffice versions: Both v. 4.4.4.3 and v. 4.4.3.2 Reproducing issue: 1.1 Open a Writer, Calc or other document. OR 1.2 Open the application directly, creating a new default document. 2. Click on the menu bar, e.g. File or Help. 3. Observe that the application freezes for ~30 seconds the first time this is done. Because of this, I've reverted to v. 4.3.7.2, which does not exhibit a long delay on clicking on the menu.
I can't confirm but version field is oldest version not latest - description says it was around in 4.4.3.2
I'm on Win8.1 x64 and I've never experienced the issue you describe. I suspect a corruption of the user profile, so please try resetting it following instruction at: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile another test if you don't wanna reinstall the 4.4.x you had troubles with it, is to run a portable LibO version like the one you can find here: http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php?view.1354 tell if the problem persists if YES change status to UNCONFIRMED it NO change it to RESOLVED WORKSFORME until then I set status to NEEDINFO
registrymodifications.xcu caused issue; per suggestion of tommy27 (barta@quipo.it), the following determined the cause of the issue: 1. The older version of LibreOffice was uninstalled. 2. The LibreOffice Help file was uninstalled. 3. C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice renamed to old_LibreOffice. 4. LibreOffice v. 4.4.4.3 was installed, as well as the LibreOffice helppack. On starting Writer, File and other menu items opened promptly. 5. Files in the old_LibreOffice were restored, a few at a time, until it was determined that restoring registrymodifications.xcu caused the issue to recur. 6. registrymodifications.xcu had grown from 47 kB after fresh installation to 1,369 kB in the file that was causing the issue. Since registrymodifications.xcu had contained many clips from files, is there any way to suppress its growth? drmoishep@gmail.com
Thanks for that information - we're trying to figure out what to do about these profile corruptions. Unfortunately right now there's not much more that can be done outside of deleting the profile :( To be honest, I'm not entirely clear what the file does but I know it's been responsible for several environment specific problems. Thanks again for your understanding and feedback. Just FYI - LibreOffice version 5 is around the corner :) Hope you enjoy the thousands of improvements that have been incorporated into the next major version
