Created attachment 117612 [details] Impress layouts Description of problem/improve: To add to the latest enhancements to LO Impress would be great to have new layouts to create presentations or print notes and handouts. Always good to deliver more and better options for home or professional user, especially if they help to take action more quickly without making too many changes. Mockups: + Slide layouts: New creations and others based office software to be useful to create some fast sections. + Handout layouts: Improvements in lines to take quick notes (lighter color and line spacing 7mm, used in most notebooks). + Page notes Layouts: To print more efficiently speaking notes: in classic form, only page or card form. Additional info: The notes or handouts layouts are unique to the printing options and can not be customized before printing (customizing the notes page is very limited). MS Office solves this limitation by allowing export notes and handouts to a Word document (LO would be interesting to export directly to Draw) Thanks
Have you been in contact with the design team? https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design IRC and mailing list are fine.
About the slide layouts, it would be good if you gave titles to these various layouts, as well as labelling of what content the various sections of the layout would have in them. I'll let others give their opinions about the handout and notes layouts. :D
We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit]
Don't see much advantage of it- whitespace is your friend. But we should discuss it in the design meeting.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #4) > Don't see much advantage of it- whitespace is your friend. I agree with you, however, the idea is not to impose a certain workflow to all users and in practice a blank slide is one more layout, so having more options will make the process easier for many users. Especially it would be good to include some proposals for Notes and Handout, which are printable and very useful options.
This could be a code pointer for the handouts SdPage::CalculateHandoutAreas() -> nGapW = 1000; // 1cm
The Handout and Notes suggestions seem useful, especially if in addition to a printing/PDF filter we could also filter export them directly to an ODF drawing .odg But, don't think there is too much advantage to the new slide/master slide layouts that can't already be achieved.
Instead of adding more fixed layouts, we could allow customizing the layouts, see bug 78156 and its duplicates.
(In reply to Bastián Díaz from comment #0) > Mockups: Repeating a comment I made at the design meeting: Personally I can't know whether I like the new layouts or not without seeing "before" vs "after" images. The layout mockups are in themselves sufficient to make a decision: I need an actual slide laid out in the existing layout and the new layout, then I can tell when I think they're better. Also, it's theoretically possible I (or anybody else) would like some of the layouts, and disapprove of other layouts. Too bad more people have noticed this bug before! It shouldn't have taken 9 years to review this.
We briefly discussed the topic in the design meeting. The proposed enhancement is welcome. It needs a before/after example or an implemented prototype to make educated comments on the design. While customizing the layouts as requested in bug 78156 would be great, it doesn't dispense us from shipping good examples.
