Description ishikawa 2015-08-05 07:10:23 UTC
This problem is very serious and confused me greatly.

I created an draw file consisting of a dozen or so pages.
They basically contain a few diagrams and texts.

Now, it was done an on a windows 7 (64-bit) PC and I think I used OpenOffice Draw program.
Sorry for using THAT program, but that was available on THAT PC.

Then when I tried to open it on ANOTHER Windows 7 (64-bit) PC,
the LibreOffice DRAW was configured to open .odg file there.

When I opened the file, though, only the first couple of pages were shown and
no subsequent pages containing graphics, et al, were shown (!?)

I thought I had failed to copy the file to my Dropbox directory where it was there, and actually travelled to my parent's home where I originally created the graphics a few times, and still could not find the looked-for pages and could not find it there also.

So I though I must have screwed up and deleted the file (sigh), and re-created
new graphics file.

But after this ordeal, I just happened to open this using the old file by OpenOffice DRAW.
VOILA! All the missing pages are suddenly displayed!!!

Now, I can understand the UI difference and functionality difference between
the two office suites after the fork from the original OpenOffice in V3 days.

However, at least, I hope for the DATA COMPATIBILITY between the two suite.

Even if it fails to draw the pages correctly, or cannot open and draw completely, LibreOffice should at least tell the user that

"There is more data that is shown,
but LIbreOffice cannot render it due to technical difficulty
(or maybe a data incompatibility: USE OpenOffice to open the file first,
and export it in XXYYZ data format so that LibreOffice draw can edit it)"

or something like that.

I feel this is a SERIOUS MAJOR bug that ought to be fixed.

I am not sure if this problem is relate to the following bugs, but from the description there, I don't think they are:

- Bug 42112 - WMF/EMF from particular DOC file not properly loaded and shapes not visible (workaround : comment #14)

- Bug 31814 - EMF regression: failure of displaying ChemDraw objects

I can only make the file in question available after Sept 9th since I am going to use the graphics (actually in the newly created file using Microsoft PowerPoint, not the original file with this problem) in a conference/workshop, but once it is done, the original file can be made available.

TIA for your attention.

I think what I wrote was not clear in a key place:

>So I though I must have screwed up and deleted the file (sigh), and re-created
>new graphics file.

I meant to say that I thought I somehow deleted the final version of the edited file, which contains my final graphics, by mistake because I only saw the first couple of pages when I opened my .odg files by LibreOffice Draw
and re-created new graphics file.

When I created the graphics file the first time around,
I left a few versions along the way when I created the graphics file and left
file-v02.odg
file-v03.odg
file-v04.odg, etc.

When I opened them by LibreOffice Draw, I only saw the first couple of pages and not the graphics I thought I had created and quite confused and searched for everywhere using the search function of Windows on the few PCs!

So just today, I opened the remaining file-v0{2,3,4}.odg, etc. using
OpenDraw without thinking much
and suddenly I saw the graphics I HAVE created and have looked for before
deciding to re-create the graphics afresh.

I am glad that the original graphics has been there all along :-),
but I have re-created them anyway and it took extra time :-(

TIA

do you still have a test file where we can try to reproduce the issue?
if yes upload it here, otherwise it will be impossible to debug

moreover tell the OpenOffice and LibreOffice versions you used.

status NEEDINFO until test case is provided

Yes, I think I still do. I just came back from a summer vacation week.

I can make the file available after September 9th.
It contains a very rough draft of slides for a public talk and
the organizer of the event won't be amused if I release the slides in advance.

So please wait until September 9th.

TIA
