Spreadsheet active tab

Certain UI elements, such as the currently active tab in Calc and Draw, as well as some subsection headings in the preference panes, do not display correctly in Mac OS X 10.10.5. It appears that LO is falling back on a symbol-only font.

This problem stretches back to 4.4 and earlier, and was fixable by unselecting the "Use system font for UI" option in preferences, but on this version of LO, the option has been removed.

I need a new way to fix this; already tried adding a font to the front of the LocalizedDefaultFonts['en'] UI_SANS fallback list in the advanced configuration, but that didn't seem to have any effect.

See attachments for examples of this font rendering bug.

This bug also exists on OpenOffice 4.1.1.
Comment 3 Alex Thurgood 2015-09-11 09:54:32 UTC
Surely the problem is the choice of default font you have selected, and which isn't supported by LibreOffice ? Please indicate which font family and weight you are using as your system font.

I can't reproduce the problem on my OSX 10.10.5 FR system, with default system font.
Comment 4 kgumerlock 2015-09-11 13:42:05 UTC
Had never touched the system font on this computer, so I suppose it would still be Helvetica Neue. I used a script to install San Francisco as a system font, and it fixed the issue reported in the bug above. I consider this workaround acceptable for now, but please consider adding the "Use system font for UI" option back in as, at the very least, an expert toggle.

So let's change the title to Re-instate option to fall back to system font for UI
Comment 6 Alex Thurgood 2015-09-11 14:59:25 UTC
Under Preferences > LibreOffice > View

the option to fallback to system font is no longer present. This is a regresssion over

Version: 4.4.5.2
Build ID: a22f674fd25a3b6f45bdebf25400ed2adff0ff99
Locale: fr.UTF-8

where that option is still present.
Comment 7 kgumerlock 2015-09-11 15:16:53 UTC
Fixed title to "Re-instate option to fall back to non-system font for UI" because with the option gone, system font for UI is currently the only setting.

Comment 9 How can I remove my account? 2015-12-16 11:17:06 UTC
I don't think we want to add (back) ways to fix random self-inflicted problems on the user system. The less variation in how LibreOffice uses the system, the better.

If I resolve this as WONTFINX or NOTABUG, will it be REOPENed? In that case I won't bother. (Not that it would have any effect anyway, I still won't work on this.)
Comment 10 How can I remove my account? 2015-12-16 11:29:58 UTC
The possibility to use a non-system font for the UI was apparently removed as described in bug #87016. It seems that ut did not work as intended anyway.

Hi, here's one more comment:

the problem with the bugged text appears RANDOMLY on my system - on and off without ANY changes made either to the LO settings nor to the OS fonts.
(I have attached two screenshots from two consecutive days - no changes made).

FYI I have never touched the system font, and have also 'flushed the font buffer' as recommended. With no effect...
