Björn, I am aware of Microsoft's end of support for Windows XP but it has nothing to do with this bug. System requirements for LibreOffice clearly states that it can run on Windows XP SP2 but that is not the case. Something needs to change... This should be fixed, or LibreOffice requirements should be adjusted accordingly.
In case of not supporting Windows XP anymore requirements page should be revised and installer should fail gracefully when trying to install on Windows XP.

Best regards

Clearly, those two bugs are not identical. It is visible in two screenshots that error messages are different and even dll is different. Please recheck those screenshots.

Thanks

5.0.2.2 release is out and replaces 5.0.1

did things change with the latest one?
Comment 7 MM 2015-10-04 13:54:33 UTC
Don't you need to upgrade to sp3 on xp ? This seems to be the minimum requirement for visual c++, if compiled with visual studio.

@MM
does this imply that this is NOTABUG or NOTOURBUG?

If the reporter upgrades to xp sp3 and the program works, it's NOTABUG. Then the LO minimal system requirements should be changed as well.
I don't know which compiler you use to compile LO or which part of the program makes use of the VC++ libs, but this would be the most logical, for the moment.
Comment 10 tommy27 2015-10-05 05:44:42 UTC
ok, let's set status to NEEDINFO until reporter upgrades to sp3 and retests.
Comment 11 b0 2015-10-05 09:27:48 UTC
Tested again with 5.0.2.2 on XP SP2 and error is still there - LO doesn't work on XP SP2.
Unfortunately, I can't upgrade that machine to SP3 but hope to get some time and test this in VM. Will report back with my findings...
Comment 12 b0 2015-10-07 08:27:02 UTC
I can report that 5.0.2.2 version DOES work on XP SP3, everything starts up as intended.

This probably means that requirements page needs updating to clearly state minimum is XP SP3, and installer needs change so it doesn't install on lesser version then XP SP3... I could help with both of those changes if someone can direct me to correct repository !?

Also, do we need two new issues for incorrect system requirments on (https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/system-requirements/) and for installer to fail on lesser version then XP SP3?

Maybe you wanna close this one as RESOLVED and report the other issues.

Qubit, could you change https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/system-requirements/ ?
Comment 15 tommy27 2015-10-14 04:23:05 UTC
let's set this as RESOLVED WORKSFORME
users should use XP SP3 and we should change the requirements page indicating that XP SP2 is no supported

System Requirements page updated.

Now that the sys req page is updated, I see that as a nice-to-have, but a low priority.

Sure, definitely! To get started with modifying the code so it doesn't install on SP2 anymore, I'd start by taking a look at the documentation for getting started with Development here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development

You can also hop onto Freenode IRC and introduce yourself in the #libreoffice-dev IRC channel.

If I may add my 2 cents, it would also be good if the Update checker takes into account this information

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65128

These are problems that affected Windows 2000 then, is now affecting Windows XP SP2 and will probably affect Windows XP SP3 and Vista in the short term...
