In writer, it is not possible to delete individual cells in tables (see e.g. https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14030). This is a requested feature of many users, and is a very obvious ommission. In MSWORD, once you select delete cell, you get the option to move the adjacent cells to the left, right, up or down on deletion. Without this feature, it is often impossible to effectively format your table.
While I don't agree that it prevents work - it's a valid request. Marking as NEW. Note: Enhancements are almost entirely handled by volunteers and thus it might be implemented in a week, a year, or never.

To delete cells, put right-click over it and you will see delete option for row as well as column. Click on your desired button and you are done.
