The Formula Toolbar fields for viewing/entering a cell's contents and viewing the cell's name or address go blank if focus is shifted from that window elsewhere. This makes comparing the contents of these fields to anything else on the screen (e.g., another spreadsheet document) difficult. I do not recall this behavior before version 5.

Hello, I want to bibisect this but bug I don't know if I understand correctly the problem. I tested 5.0.2 and 4.0.0 and doesn't see the difference. Please could you post a screenshot with error? Thank you
I'm not sure that a screenshot would show anything except two blank fields. What happens with version 5 but not version 4 is that when the focus leaves the Calc sheet window (to another window on the screen or to a different screen), the formula field and the cell location field in the formula toolbar go blank. It may take a few seconds for this to happen. Perhaps, and I'm just guessing here, it may have something to do with the user's mouse behavior. In my case, the behavior is focus follows mouse, i.e, whichever window the mouse cursor is under gets the focus, although that window is not brought to the front unless it is clicked somewhere. Another guess is that it might have something to do with a user's default color scheme. Perhaps what's actually happening is that the text just changes color, and in my case happens to change to the same color as the background due to my color scheme. However, even if that's the case, I don't see why any change to those fields should happen just because focus shifts away from the window. What would be the point of that? The result is that if you're trying to compare a formula (or cell content) on one sheet with that of a sheet in another window, you can't because whichever one is not in focus will go blank.
Hi raal, To reproduce: In Calc A1, type something, (let's say 4). Input line displays 4 and Name box A1. Open Writer. Line input and Name box in Calc are now empty. Clic in Calc A1 and Line input and Name box display again their content. In LO 4, when you left Calc to work somewhere else, contents of Line input and Name box were visible.
As far as I can see this is not a regression, and exists since LO 3.3. (was it really briefly working in some 4.4 versions? I only checked with 4.4.0.3, where it still occurred) There's also a different bug report for the issue, bug 81636, so I'm closing this one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 81636 ***
