The 'Area Style / Filling' control in the Drawing Object Properties toolbar has a drop down menu to select the type of fill and secondary drop down menu for gradient, hatching, and bitmap presets, but there isnt a means to link into the dialog to have more customization. So i'd like to suggest we have a 'More...' entry into fill type drop down menu that links to the Area tab of the Area dialog.
Created attachment 119300 [details] Simplified area properties I'd show only the recently used colors, gradients, and perhaps hatchings. If there are no recently used we show default values. The items are kind of toggle buttons meaning the user can choose one out of the options. Access to the dialog with all settings is there right now, a little bit too unobtrusive. The button might be the opposite though.
@Heiko: I was talking about the toolbar and you were talking about the sidebar. :D
Oups ;-). Actually the toolbar shouldn't offer those detailed properties at all. However my suggestion can be applied there too as floating widgets.
We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit]
Closing this ticket as WFM because a) 'more' clutters simple controls (especially at the toolbar), b) is available via content panel title bar, and c) dropdown menus should not execute a function directly. Because of this bad implementation we cannot ensure full accessibility via keyboard.
@Cor, @Stuart: what is your take on this, as i disagree with heiko closing it. We have a more type entries in the paragraph style combox, insert table button, color picker widget, and bullet split button. once a user opens the drop down listbox and doesnt find a suitable preset gradient, hatching or bitmap, they will have to search around to find the dialog in order to get access to non-presets.
The widget would need to be changed to accommodate a more button, but think it makes sense. The color selection already provides the custom color, while the pattern item actually does not allow any changes so have to use context menu to get to the Area dialog Area tab. Also, for consistency, when the toolbar is docked vertical the button currently launches the Area dialog onto the Area tab. Providing a More... action from the drop list/combo box actually is needed.
